The Carolina Panthers 2025 To-Do List

Since the Carolina Panthers' season is essentially over, highlighted by running back Chuba Hubbard being placed on Injured Reserve, ending his impressive season, it is time to consider the Panthers' future. What steps should they take going into next year with a renewed outlook on this offense and Bryce Young in particular?

Clean House on Defensive Staff

While Carolina’s offense is capable of scoring over 20 points, its defense often concedes a similar amount in a short period. This issue arises from several factors, the primary one being the ineffectiveness of defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero's scheme. Adjustments that might seem obvious to the average Panthers fan are not as straightforward to Evero.

To address the defensive issues, the Panthers must make significant changes in their coaching staff and player roster. Remember when Carolina's defense was outstanding a couple of years ago? They successfully rebuilt their defense through the draft, and that’s precisely what they need to do again this upcoming offseason.

Be Aggressive in Free Agency

General Manager Dan Morgan and the front office must be aggressive once free agency starts in March. One area of need for the Panthers is at wide receiver. Some notable wide receivers expected to hit free agency include Cincinnati Bengals' Tee Higgins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Chris Godwin. Godwin would be familiar with the Panthers' offensive coordinator, Brad Idzik, and head coach, Dave Canales, as both previously worked with Tampa Bay before joining Carolina. Additionally, Seattle Seahawks' D.K. Metcalf could be a viable option, as Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has previously thrown to him. However, Carolina would need to trade for Metcalf.

Have a Successful a 2025 NFL Draft as 2024 was

The 2024 NFL Draft was quite successful for the Panthers. They made significant improvements with most of their draft picks, effectively reinventing their offense. Fans and owner David Tepper have confidence that Dan Morgan will have another successful draft, this time focusing on strengthening the defensive side rather than the offensive side of the ball.

In 2025, Carolina will possess their first-round pick, the Los Angeles Rams’ second-round pick, and their own third- and fourth-round picks. They will also have an additional fourth-round pick from the Dallas Cowboys, which they acquired in the trade for Jonathan Mingo (it’s still mind-blowing how Morgan managed to secure a fourth-round pick for Mingo). Furthermore, the Panthers will have three fifth-round picks: two from the New York Giants and the Ravens, along with their own, and a conditional seventh-round pick. These picks are certainly enough to build a winning roster. In addition, Carolina will have around 16.38 million dollars in cap space to work with.

Dan Morgan was able to identify valuable talent among undrafted free agents. For instance, rookie wide receiver Jalen Coker has made an impressive contribution with 25 receptions for 416 yards and two touchdowns this season despite not starting until midway through the year. Additionally, rookie safety Demani Richardson has recorded 23 solo tackles and one interception this season.

If the Carolina Panthers can accomplish these three things, they can return to competing for a playoff spot and the NFC South title.
