The New York Mets are Down, but Certainly Not Out

The prospect of going on an emotional rollercoaster isn't foreign to the 'Mets Faithful.' Unfortunately, this season is no exception to New York's endearing yet flawed baseball team. After starting their season 1-5, a literal act of God in the 4.8-magnitude earthquake that hit New York propelled them into a winning streak! The Mets went on to win 6-9 games, and things looked brighter...until they weren't.

After another lull in their season, we proudly entered the 'Grimace Era' after the purple monster threw the first pitch of New York’s June 12th game against the Miami Marlins. New York then proceeded to win seven games straight, and after a whole month in the era, The Mets had the best winning percentage (.704), the most runs per game (6.1), the most home runs (45), the highest slugging percentage (.491), and the best on-base percentage (.340) in the National League!

Things have not been as hopeful lately. After losing 2-3 against the Athletics, the Mets are clamoring for a spot in the Wild Card Hunt. This won't be easy, as the top two spots (Diamondbacks and Padres) are playing some of the best baseball of their respective seasons.

Lately, pitching seems to be the biggest problem facing the Mets. In their game against the Athletics yesterday, they had 9 hits but gave up 12. The Mets' pitching is ranked 20th in the League. Mark Vientos has been on a tear, with two home runs in his most recent game and three RBIs. It's worth mentioning that both Vientos and Pete Alonso have performed very well in recent series, along with Francisco Lindor reaching 100 homers with the Mets and always bringing life to the team.

Hopefully, this new series against the Marlins will help New York regain some of its lost mojo. The Marlins are coming off a winning 2-3 series against the Phillies; however, their pitching is ranked 28th, and they have given up nine runs in their most recent series.

It's easy to see why fans are so passionate about this franchise. It's a very loveable and relatable team. Hopefully, the Mets will give their fans something to be excited about in the coming games.
