The Carolina Panthers have made a few key hires since the end of their season. Here is what the hires are and what roles these guys will play on the team as coaches.
The Reich Era Begins
Frank Reich was officially introduced as the 23rd head coach of the Carolina Panthers on January 31st. Reich was hired to replace interim head coach Steve Wilks who replaced the historically awful Matt Rhule.
Frank coaching with the Panthers is his homecoming. Reich was the first-ever Carolina Panthers quarterback and threw the first-ever touchdown in the history of the new Carolina team in 1995. Reich was the former Indianapolis Colts head coach from 2018-2022. He will ultimately bring stability to a Panthers organization that really hasn't seen it since they fired Ron Rivera.
Ejiro Evero
Evero's defense was the only bright spot on an underwhelming Denver Broncos team. Evero's defensive unit was a top three unit in a lot of defensive categories.
Evero did this while losing his best pass rusher Bradley Chubb to a trade to the Miami Dolphins. Then lost Chubb replacement Jacob Martin. Denver also didn't have their other pass rusher Randy Gregory for most of the season due to injury.
The Panthers current defense roster is appealing to any DC candidate. Imagine having guys like Jaycee Horn, Brian Burns, and Frankie Luvu to work with.
Duce Staley
This was a home-run hire by the Panthers. Most know him from the Detroit Lions hard knock. Staley seems to be a fantastic coach that not only his running backs but players in general rallied around. Hard knocks showed that Staley brings competitive energy to everything he does. Staley was in charge of Jamaal Williams and D'Andre Swift this past season.
Staley was probably a huge reason why Williams was able to break Barry Sanders' record for most touchdowns in a season. Although the organization has not officially announced what Duce's role will be with the team (whether it's running backs coach, offensive coordinator, etc..)
The offensive coordinator job for Carolina has not been announced. There are a few candidates that could have it. The most popular option is Brian Johnson who is the quarterback's coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. He works with guys like Jalen Hurts and Gardner Minshew. Another name is Duce Staley as said before.
A Good Staff
The current coaching staff are slam-dunk hires. The Reich Era seems to be a no nonsense staff. During the regular season hopefully everything will click into place and work like a well-oiled machine.
