The Denver Broncos drafted Oregon QB Bo Nix 12th overall after Russell Wilson's campaign in Denver came to an end. Nix finished his final year in college with 4,508 passing yards and 45 touchdowns, completing 77% of his passes. He also tallied six rushing touchdowns. Nix finished second in Heisman voting, losing to Jayden Daniels. Nix started every season he played in college, and that trend will now continue into the NFL after Sean Payton named Bo Nix QB1.
Nix was not gifted the starting job. Instead, he had to fight Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson for the job. In the two pre-season games that have been played, Nix has clearly been the best of the three. In Week 1 Nix threw for 125 yards and one TD and lead four scoring drives in his two and a half quarters played. In Week 2, he completed 8 of his 9 passes for 80 yards and tossed another one in the end zone. In total, Bo Nix has played a total of seven drives, and six of them ended with points on the scoreboard. Denver scored a total of 30 points with Nix on the field compared to Wilson's and Stidham's combined 12.
Bo Nix is now the first rookie quarterback to be named starter for Denver since Broncos legend John Elway in 1983. He's also the third rookie quarterback to be named a Week 1 starter for the 2024-25 NFL season, joining Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears and then Washington Commanders field general Jayden Daniels. Lots of reasons to be excited if you're in Broncos Country right now.
