The last worry of Chicago Bears fans this off-season is finally checked off the list. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, No. 1 overall pick QB Caleb Williams has signed his rookie contract with the Bears. The presumptive starting quarterback's deal is fully guaranteed and worth $39 million over the first four years, with a fifth-year team option. The deal also comes with a $25.5 million signing bonus.
The former Heisman winner threw for 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns, and a 169.2 quarterback rating while only throwing 10 interceptions. Williams was picked after GM Ryan Poles decided to ship off former No. 11 overall pick Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional 6th-round pick.
Williams will have plenty of help to show if he can finally be the franchise quarterback that Chicago has been looking for with the Bears adding a ton of offensive talent. Throughout the draft and free agency, the Bears added RB D'Andre Swift, WR Keenan Allen, WR Rome Odunze, TE Gerald Everett, OL Ryan Bates and OL Coleman Shelton.
Update [7/17/24]: PFT's Mike Florio is now reporting that Williams hasn't signed yet (although is expected to), with further outside rumors suggesting he's requested not to be franchised tagged in negotiations.
