Recap of the Carolina Panthers 2023 NFL Draft Class

The Carolina Panthers selected Five Players in the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City, Missouri. Each draft pick can help a team in some way shape or form. Carolina even signed guys after the draft.

Round 1 Pick 1: Bryce Young, Alabama

With the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers selected Bryce Young out of Alabama. The quarterback was the most significant need for Carolina. Bryce was the favorite of the Draft and seems to be a promising young prospect for the Panthers. Young will be wearing number nine (Matt Corral previously wore number nine before switching to number 2). It will be exciting to see Bryce Young in the preseason.

Round 2 Pick 39: Jonathan Mingo, Ole Miss

The Panthers decided to take a wide receiver in the second round. A receiver was a need for Carolina. Before that Carolina had signed former Detroit Lion DJ Chark. Since DJ Moore left in the trade that gave Carolina the number-one pick, there had been a desperate need for a receiver. Mingo will be wearing #15 in the upcoming season. He is going to be an amazing target for Young for whoever ends up starting in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season.

Round 3 Pick 80 (Via Pittsburgh Steelers): DJ Johnson, Oregon

The Carolina Panthers trade up with the Pittsburgh Steelers (Carolina traded the 93rd and 132nd picks for pick 80). DJ Johnson was a surprise pick to some in the Panthers' circle. Johnson will be paired with Brian Burns on the other edge (something Carolina has needed for a while). Johnson will be wearing the number #52.

The last player to wear #52 was Joel Iyiegbuniwe who played seven games last season and has zero stats (that is real on pro football reference). Defensive Coordinator Ejjro Evero was likely lobbying for this guy when Carolina was scouting prospects.

Round 4 Pick 114: Chandler Zavala, NC State

Zavala is a great late-round pickup for Carolina. They could use depth on the O-line (especially if Austin Corbett is not ready in week one). He played on the same line as Carolina’s 2022 first-round pick Ikem Ekonu (Ickey was ecstatic by the pick). Zavala will make a great addition at Guard for the Panthers. Zavala will be wearing number 62.

Round 5 Pick 145: Jammie Robinson, Florida State

With their last draft pick, Carolina drafted Saftey Jammie (Yes this is a Key&Peele sketch name) Robinson. This was a need for the Panthers along with Quarterback. If anyone watched the Carolina Panthers vs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16, you would understand why this pick was made.

Ever since Jaycee Horn was drafted in 2021, he has been the only top cornerback that the Panthers have. Horn has also dealt with injuries so Robinson can add depth and be another top option at cornerback. Also, this pick was Jaycee Horn approved. Robinson will be dawning number 22.

Undrafted Free Agents

After the draft, Carolina signed several undrafted free agents who hopefully will make an impact on the team. The most notable signing, however, is CB Rejzohn Wright Oregon State who was on the show Last Chance U (a show that looks into the world of Junior College Football, fun fact Josh Allen went to a Junior College before Wyoming).
