Ever feel old when it’s your birthday, no matter how old you are? Well, the New York Giants are old, as 2024 marks their 100th season. The Giants are the fourth team in NFL history to reach 100 seasons, joining the Cardinals, Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers as the NFL’s oldest teams. On Monday, the Giants announced their plans to celebrate their 100th season.
“The entire Mara family is proud to commemorate the 100th season of New York Giants football," John Mara, President and CEO of the Giants said. "As we reflect on this landmark season, I think about my family, and most specifically my father, grandfather and uncle who dedicated their entire lives to the Giants and the NFL. We would not be who we are without their vision and leadership. When we became partners with the Tisch family in 1991, our franchise grew even stronger. Together, the Mara and Tisch families are proud to celebrate the history of our franchise as we look to the future of Giants football."
First, the Giants unveiled the 100-season logo, which will be worn as a patch on their uniforms in the 2024 season. Next, the Giants will host Giants 100: A Night of Legends at Madison Square Garden on June 20. The event will feature panel discussions covering the team’s history, preview the 2024 season, and feature artifacts from the Hall of Fame and 100-season merchandise.
In July, the team will name their top 100 players as voted on by an independent committee of NFL historians, media members, and fan contributors. There will be a 10-part podcast that will examine the players' impact on the team. August 4 will be Giants' 100th Season Day at Yankee Stadium to celebrate the time that the Giants played at Yankee Stadium. Eli Manning will throw out the first pitch, and a bobblehead of him in pinstripes will be handed out to the first 18,000 fans. According to the New York Post, the Giants will also designate three games during the season to celebrate their eight championships, including their four pre-Super Bowl titles.
2024 will be a big year for the Giants on and off the field. They should have a good season on the field since they improved the team by drafting Malik Nabers and others. The Giants should be in contention for making the playoffs this year, which would be huge in their 100th year. Obviously, winning the Super Bowl in their 100th season would be great, but I don’t think that will happen, although I do think they will make the playoffs.
