Offense
The quiet MVP season Jared Goff has been having has been incredible to watch. While he may not win the award, I do not think he cares. Goff cares more about the success of the team over his own accolades which for is insurmountable for the success the Lions have been having this season. While the offense has steadily dropped in rankings in terms of passing yards, down to #15, it has not affected the Lions winning games whatsoever.
The rushing offense has been more successful for the Lions the past few games, but again, it is about winning games for them, not stat lines. While the rushing offense does rank 6th overall and is a huge part of the Lions success, it isn't about stats. Gibbs and Montgomery have shared the load all season in terms of rushing yards, and it has made the lives opposing a living nightmare to stop. Hence why the Lions have had them sharing the snaps and the results have been successful.
Defense
With safety Brian Branch more than likely to play despite getting ejected last game for "targeting" (he will end up getting a huge fine for it), the defense can breathe a little easier with this upcoming matchup. But the Lions rank 29th in passing defense; obviously not good going up against C.J. Stroud. What's worse is wide receiver Nico Collins being cleared to play this week, a huge addition for Stroud and the Texans. The Lion's defense is going to have its hands full with this one, but they can hope Stroud's regression in his second year continues in this game.
Houston Texans
Offense
Stroud's regression in his second year has been confusing. You would think that, with a ceiling like Stroud's, he would be an MVP front-runner this year. But he has not capitalized on his rookie success from last year. Nevertheless, Texans have played fairly well, ranking 12th in passing yards and 11th in rushing yards per game. Nico Collins' return will be a significant boost for Stroud, giving him an extra pair of hands to throw with the loss of Stefon Diggs. But this offense is going up against a stellar Lions defense, so it needs to be an all-hands-on-deck game for the Texans offense. For the offense to do their part, Stroud has to make precise throws in the pocket and not hold to the ball too long.
Defense
The Texans have one of the best passing defenses in the NFL, currently ranked third. Part of why the Texans have a winning record this year is because of the passing defense being able to hold off enormous amount of yardage gains through the air. The rushing defense fairs just as well, ranking 12th overall. The Texans' defense as a whole has been frustrating to deal with, but against this Lions team, the entire defense will need to be in sync to prevent the Lions from moving down the field, whether it's on the ground or through the air.
Verdict
The way the Lions have been dealing, I think they take this one pretty easily. The offense is just to in sync to be able to handle, and against this regressive Houston offense, I think the Lions will be able to take care of business down in Texas. Keep having the winning mindset, there is no team that can out duel the Lions.
Final Score: 42-28 Lions
