Detroit Lions

Offense

Coming off a win against the Bears last week on the day they always seemed to lose on (Thanksgiving), the Lions offense should have all the confidence in the world heading into this matchup. Currently sitting in 5th for passing yards average with 240.8, the Lions have managed to stay on top of their game through the air even without wide receiver Khalif Raymond. Tim Patrick has stepped up in the WR2 role, and QB Jared Goff still has plenty more targets to throw to, with Amon Ra St. Brown and TE Sam Laporta among them. Not to mention the running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs helping the Lions rank 4th in rushing offense, averaging 154.4 yards a game. While OT Taylor Decker, a crucial playmaker in defending the pass rush and opening running lanes, might not be available for this matchup, this probably won't hinder the offensive line much because, as Head Coach Dan Campbell said it best, it's on to the next man up.

Defense

The Lions' defense has been dealing with injuries but is holding its own and delivering for the team when needed. Passing defense has dropped to 25th, letting up an average of 226.6 yards passing per game, but has been consistent with not letting an opposing team score. Only giving up 10 passing touchdowns the whole season so far. The rushing defense has been stellar, holding the average to less than 100 yards rushing allowed per game. With the injuries it has sustained, this defense still finds ways to prevent touchdowns and miniaturize the damage. Against this Packers offense, this will be an actual test of the depth this team has.

Green Bay Packers

Offense

This Packers offense has been exciting to watch this season, beating the brakes off the 49ers two weeks ago and continuing to own the Bears with a 1-point win before that (again, sorry, Bears fans). QB Jordan Love has found ways to put the ball even under pressure, whether it's a bomb to wide receiver Christian Watson or a check down for a long gain to running back Josh Jacobs. The Packers passing offense currently ranks 8th, with an average of 234.8 yards per game, which has got to sting, considering the Lions rank higher. Even worse, while the Packers rank 5th in rushing offense, with 148.5 yards per game, the Lions still rank higher than them. This game will come with a vengeance for the Packers, and they will want this win more than anything.

Defense

The Packers' defense fairs better than the Lions, ranking 17th in passing defense, allowing 217.3 passing yards on average per game. But against this Lions passing game, that part of the defense will be tested to the limit. Where they really excel, though, is the rushing defense, which ranks 8th overall, only letting up 106.6 yards on average per game. By limiting the ground game of the Lions, the Packers might have a chance of holding their own on defense.

My Verdict

This might be a shootout. With the Lions' injuries mounting, this game could be one of the best Thursday Night Football games this season. I still believe the Lions will pull away with this one and roll into a much-needed 10-day rest period.

Final Score: 30-24 Lions
