Lions Make NFL History in Win Over the 49ers

The Detroit Lions came out in a high-scoring game against the 49ers while setting a new NFL record for most games in an NFL season with 40+ points and zero turnovers (5). It's an insane accomplishment for this team and a record that will probably go untouched for years. Not only that, but it is also the first time in franchise history that the Lions have gone undefeated on the road. And it is the first team in NFL history to have two running backs and two wide receivers, all top 1,000 scrimmage yards in a single season. The best part about this game, no new injuries for the Lions. On another note, the Lions got their revenge against the 49ers from the NFC Championship game last season. It is a bittersweet cherry on top for this team, one they are glad to get the get-back game.

Offense

The offense put the team on its back to stay in the game, and when the defense had a few key moments, the offense did not take the foot off the gas and could take the lead in the third quarter. QB Jared Goff had a day with 303 passing yards and three touchdowns, with wide receivers Amon Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and TE Sam LaPorta sharing the three. RB Jahmyr Gibbs also had a day on the ground with 117 rushing yards and one touchdown. The offense was firing on all cylinders and made sure that the game was close in the first half, then capitalized and took the lead. It was an excellent showing for the offense and a masterclass by offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

Defense

The Lions' defense was struggling against Brock Purdy and the passing game. TE George Kittle had over 100 yards receiving, and WR Ricky Pearsall had over 100 yards and one touchdown. But the Lions knew how to do it the best when it came down to clutch moments. Safety Kirby Joseph managed to intercept Brock Purdy twice in the game (it would've been three if it had not been for pass interference). Those two picks changed the game's tide and allowed the Lions to capitalize on it and take the lead in the second half. While injured, this Lions' defense knows how to come in clutch and deliver in the direst moments.

What's Next?

The Lions have a match-up with the most pressure against the Vikings. With a win here, the Lions are the NFC North Champions and get some much-needed rest with a first-round bye in the playoffs. A loss here will put them back in the fifth seed, the first time a 14-win team will be a fifth seed, and they will play in the wild card the next week, negating that rest time. Not only that, but they will also lose the NFC North title to the Vikings. There is a lot on the line in this game, and it is probably one of, if not the most, important game of the regular season.
