Super Bowl LVIII lived up to the hype, and especially with calls around the NFL fan base that it was rigged, it becomes paramount to sit down, have your moment of pain that it wasn't your team's year, and congratulate the Kansas City Chiefs on bringing home another trophy in what is quickly becoming the newest NFL dynasty. With three Super Bowl victories in four years and becoming the first team since the 2003/2004 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowls, the Chiefs have solidified themselves as the team to beat at this point in the decade.
Defensive tackle Chris Jones proved that he is still an absolute game wrecker, keeping San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy on the back foot for a good chunk of the game and delivering multiple key plays on defense. With a game that went into overtime, the Kansas City Chiefs kept cool heads to deliver a walk-off touchdown to Mecole Hardman, to the sheer delight of Chiefs fans (and Swifties) everywhere.
The Chiefs won the game (and the season) on the back of their best defense in the Patrick Mahomes era. They have already given a contract extension to defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, and with the defense being so dominant this season (and Spagnuolo having helped get Kansas City to three rings), this will likely be the first shrewd bit of business they complete this offseason.
With Patrick Mahomes continuing to defy expectations, the Chiefs turned what many considered to be a down year into yet another victory parade in Kansas City. As we take the time to celebrate this football victory, think of those who have been affected by the shooting during the parade. That senseless act, which has left 22 people injured and one dead at the time of writing, has marred what should be only a day of celebration for a city that for many decades saw their team get to good, but not quite great.
