2025 Monster Energy Supercross Recap - Glendale

The First Triple Crown of 2025 also marks the final round of the initial 250 West Class stint this season, marking a hell of an opportunity for riders to get last-minute momentum into a multi-week break. The Triple Crown has also been a boon to San Diego 450 winner Eli Tomac, who's won under these parameters eight times prior and needed a bounceback after a poor run in what might've been his final run at Angel Stadium. How would he and the rest of the 450 boys handle one of the biggest floors on the calendar, chasing new points leader Ken Roczen?
Daytime Program/Injury Notes:
- I'd bet heavily on Glendale being a potential SMX round in future years now if St. Louis works out well. There is a lot of room to play inside and right outside of the stadium. Feld typically runs a fall Monster Jam show there, so they could conceivably run those back-to-back if things line up right.
- Fun track this week with a few quad spots but not exactly the longest track by Glendale standards.
- Drew Adams is the latest Pro Circuit Rider to go down with an injury, and the 450 sqaud has shut Jorge Prado down until Motocross.
- The Lawrence Brothers' lawsuit against Lucas Mirtl has bee filed in Florida District Court. Here's the full details courtesy of VitalMX.
- 250 Fastest Qualifier: No. 23 Julien Beaumer (59.778)
- 450 Fastest Qualifier: No. 1 Jett Lawrence (58:097)
250 Recap
1st) No. 19 Jordon Smith (Triumph Factory Racing) (2-3-1)
You'll never forget your first talking about the folks over at Triumph rather than Smith, who isn't exactly a stranger to winning. He was easily the most consistent of the 250 riders all night, and even if he hadn't won that final Main Event, he still would've won with spots in hand over old rival Haiden Deegan. If for nothing else, happy to see Triumph get that first win notched away in less than 20 tries in Supercross. Last year, they were figuring things out pretty quickly, and this was likely at some point in 2025.
3rd) No. 100 Cole Davies (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) (1-1-8)
I said last week that this Triple Crown format could play right into the hands of someone like Davies, and we were at least two-thirds of the way there. A slow start off the gate was then slightly bottled up by Haiden Deegan after hitting a turn marker, which slotted him 16th right off the bat. Good on Davies for at least digging deep for the podium, but this should be a good learning experience moving forward, regardless of format. Nice to know he can mentally stay in it after bad starts. His day will come soon, don't you fret over that.
4th) No. 23 Julien Beaumer (Red Bull KTM) (4-7-2)
It was a so-so night to just miss the podium for the home-state kid, but I have just one thing to say here. Pink jersey, brown pants....never again please. Comfortably the worst mismatch look I've ever seen in 26 years on this planet.

450 Recap
1st) No. 4 Chase Sexton (Red Bull KTM) (3-3-2)
You could say most of the same things about Jordon Smith that you could for Sexton here. Probably not the fastest, but you can absolutely win these Triple Crowns by putting together a night like the No. 4 did. That opening Main, where he was outside the top three up until those final few laps, was ultimately the difference-maker here. How that outside sand section into the roller send before the finish set that pass on Roczen up after he hit both quads leading in was super impressive, and I don't know if he would've passed him otherwise. Great night for the '23 Champion, and he's back in the points lead going to Tampa.
2nd) No. 2 Cooper Webb (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) (1-5-3)
A bad Main 2 start ultimately cost Webb the win last night, but this was as good a bounce back from an eighth last weekend in Anaheim as you could hope for. I was very impressed with how he didn't crack under the pressure of Jett making a run on him in that opening tilt, and it was he, not Webb, who ended up slipping late. I feel like I've said this for the last three years now, but why would you ever give this guy a reason to get into a title fight if you're Sexton, Tomac, Jett, etc? He's only 10 points back going into Tampa, and he's been good historically at these East Coast venues.
3rd) No. 94 Ken Roczen (HEP Progressive/Ecstar Suzuki) (4-1-5)
Sleeping on this (and a certain NBA trade if we're going there), I'm kind of shocked Roczen didn't win last night. I don't know if there was a single guy he was yarding with that quad into the whoops section. In that final race, his best pass through there (Section 6 for those at home) was nearly two-tenths better than anyone else and eight-tenths faster than race winner Eli Tomac. He wasn't super great in that sand sweeper by the gate, which would explain a lot, but I'm stunned more guys didn't pick up on that quad into S6.
8th) No. 1 Jett Lawrence (Honda HRC) (2-2-DNF)
I think my initial gut reaction of my heart sinking as they first showed Jett with his right leg hanging off the footpeg would also apply to a ton of fans both at State Farm Stadium and watching at home. Not that freak knee injuries off of dabs are anything new; see James Stewart at Washougal in '07. But this one felt weird. Also, watching it back this afternoon, Jett was the only guy in that pack of riders to stick his foot out there, and by the looks of it, he didn't do it in Main 1 or Main 2. Hopefully, the MRI comes back clean, and this was just a freak hyperextension and nothing more. I have not really been a fan of the trend of injuries in the last 30 or so months in this sport, and this would be another massive one.
